As the dust begins to settle after last week’s election, here is a look at how some Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) Legislative Champions and allies fared on election day.
MRF Legislative Champions:
Senator Joni Ernst (Iowa) – Not up for reelection in 2024
Senator Ron Johnson (Wisconsin) – Not Up for reelection in 2024
Senator Gary Peters (Michigan) – Not up for reelection in 2024
Senator John Thune (South Dakota) – Not up for reelection in 2024
• (New Senate Majority Leader)
Representative Troy Balderson (Ohio) – Won reelection to a new 2-year term
Representative Mike Bost (Illinois) – Won reelection to a new 2-year term
Representative Michael Burgess (Texas) – Retiring from Congress in 2024
Representative Mike Gallagher (Wisconsin) – Retired from Congress in 2024
Representative Darrin LaHood (Illinois) – Won reelection to a new 2-year term
Representative Susie Lee (Nevada) – Won reelection to a new 2-year term
Representative Collin Peterson (Minnesota) – Lost reelection in 2020
Representative Tim Walberg (Michigan) – Won reelection to a new 2-year term
Additionally, both co-chairs of the Senate Motorcycle Caucuses, Sen. Ernst and Sen. Peters, will be up for reelection in 2026. Meanwhile, all four of the co-chairs of the House Motorcycle Caucus will be returning in 2025, including past MRF Champions Rep. Balderson and Rep. Walberg as well as Rep. Donald Norcross (New Jersey) and Rep. Derrick Van Orden (Wisconsin).
We have a lot of work ahead of us over the next two years. However, having lawmakers who understand our issues, advocate for our priorities and care about the millions of bikers across the country is a great foundation for success.
