Get Out And Kick The Tires, It’s Motorcycle Maintenance Season

  • Spring is just around the corner so it’s just about time to push the bike out and give her the once over twice. That’s right, the time has arrived and after sitting all winter, it’s time to do your pre-spring motorcycle maintenance again, and also use this as your reminder to update your riding wardrobe with some great BikerCrap.com sexy riding apparel.

All you cold weather riders probably have your pre-spring motorcycle maintenance ritual, but for those of you that do not, it is not too terribly difficult really. Of course, you can send your bike to the local dealership, if it is warm enough to ride, or you can do the basics yourself. Charge the battery if you have not had it on a battery tender all winter and then start the riding season fresh with all new fluids.

Now is a great time to take a close look at your rubber, it sucks to get down to the day before a long ride and realized your riding a bald tire. Some try to get every last mile out of a tire while others side to caution and head in to the spring with enough rubber to get them through fall. Either way, give your rubber a good looking over and check the tire pressure. Don’t guess, get a gauge out and check! If you don’t have them on your list already, add checking your brake pad wear and brake fluid level to your pre-season motorcycle maintenance list.

Start out with a freshly cleaned air cleaner too, why not? Are your spark plugs due to be replaced? If they are getting close, no better time than now. Give all you cables and controls a good looking over and workout, things may have stiffened up over winter and might need a shot of graphite. Drive belt/chain tension – check, and don’t forget the primary chain as well, if your bike has one.

And what many will say is the most important check you can include on your pre-spring motorcycle maintenance list is “nuts, bolts and screws”.   That’s right, nuts, bolt and screws! Put a wrench or screwdriver on every single one of them that you can reach to make sure they are tight. Nothing sucks more than to be blowing down the highway at 75 mph and feel your shifting lever fall off! And don’t forget the motor mounts!

You’re almost done now, just a few more checks left!

Run all of your lights to be sure you have working bulbs. Test your brake light to be sure it comes on with minimal application of either brake control and test your turn signals too, if you have them.

Even for those that live in warmer climates and have the luxury of riding year round, this is a great time to really sit down and give the bike a good looking over. It’s really a bummer to have a great summer ride cut short because of something silly that could have been avoided had you paid a little bit more attention to the motorcycle maintenance on your bike!

And once you’ve got your pre-season motorcycle maintenance out of the way, it’s time to head on over to the BikerCrap.com web site and start updating your riding and rally wardrobe. Take a quick look at the rides and rallies you plan to attend and shop accordingly. You can never go wrong with a sexy leather top of two and of course, if you’re going to be hitting those “21 and over” rallies, a few sheer tops and maybe some sexy nipple jewelry may be in order.

So don’t delay, get that motorcycle maintenance done as well as your riding and rally wear shopping so you can hit the ground running!
