Rumors are in the air that Big Bear Choppers has shut down their operations. The company based in Big Bear Lake California and run by hasband and wife team Kevin and Mona Aslop is one of the few small manufacturers of custom motorcycles still operating in the US. Similar rumors regarding the closing of Big Bear Choppers have been heard throughout the motorcycle community over the past year or so, but owners Kevin and Mona have always stated that they were just re-tinking their operations and assured customers and fans they were here to stay.
However local newspaper the Big Bear Grizzly reports that there seems to be no sign of life at the Big Bear Choppers headquarters. I have personally tried several times to contact Big Bear Choppers and the phone just rings... no answer, no voice mail... nothing.
From the Big Bear Grizzly...
The sign is still on the building, the trucks in the parking lot and at least one custom motorcycle remains inside the Big Bear Choppers building on Fox Farm Road in Big Bear Lake. But there is no sign of life at the once-bustling custom motorcycle manufacturing business.
Is Big Bear Choppers defunct? Are the owners, Kevin and Mona Alsop, on the verge of foreclosure and/or bankruptcy? Has the operation been moved to Perris, Calif., or is that facility also closed? Will the customers who paid for custom bikes up front ever see their purchases?
