A few years back I had the honour and pleasure to get know Vince Bonic, and his son..I can't recall his son's name offhand, but i do recall him sitting and listening with wide eyes as us older bikers were sitting together, drinking beers and swapping stories as we all do at the end of a days saddle sittin. We were on a tour and were holed up in a country Victorian town. The pub run outa rooms thank god, so a few of us had to pay extra and get some motel rooms with aircon...what misery....lol...the pub rooms didn't have air, just desk fans...So we bought take aways and headed back to our freezing rooms with about 20 extras...opened the doors pointed the air fans outside and just sat back still spouting roadtales..until the wee hours of the morning..Vince and his son just sat and listened...Vince told a few yarns and his son looked at his dad in a whole new way...I believe thats how its supposed to be. Fathers passing onto sons what life's about...especially in our world.
I received word earlier this week, that Vince past away. He succumbed to cystic fibrosis...its something that my club actively supports , through donations every year. I have to admit I'm not real sure what it is or what it pertains too. But i know it kills you.
I also found out Vince's son suffers with the disease also.
Next Wednesday I'll be riding with Vince for the last time on this earth...or until we meet again..where ever that may be..
