It’s that time of the year again when people begin heading to the coast to enjoy the sun and sand or to other areas of the country to enjoy the scenery in the warmth of the summer sun. Many people want to be able to take their motorcycles with them so they can enjoy a peaceful ride down the coastal highway or round the curves of the beautiful mountains. One of the biggest questions that people have when it comes to being able to have their bike with them while on vacation is, how do they get it to the vacation spot and still be able to pack their vacation clothing or travel with their friends or family?
There are a few ways that a person can have a relaxing vacation and still be able to enjoy the breathtaking views as they coast down the freeway on their motorcycle. Let’s take a look at a few ways that you can leave town and still have the bike with you:
Riding. You know your bike better than anyone and you’re the best one to ride it, especially if it needs to go a far way away from home. If you are planning a cross country trip you need to make sure your motorcycle is suited for the roads and terrain you will be traveling on the most. You will also want to be prepared to ride in all kinds of weather. During the spring and summer especially, you may find yourself riding in extreme heat but heavy rains are often found in many states across the country and being prepared with the right rain gear is going to be very important. Riding the bike can be a great way to keep the travel budget down but keep in mind that long distance rides can really take a lot out of your bike and you may find yourself in need of new tires or brakes sooner than you expected. If you will be riding hundreds, or even thousands of miles, you really need to make plans before you even leave on the trip to stop and rest at a hotel at night. Fatigued riding can be very dangerous and when you are on a bike, you need to be alert at all times for your own safety as well as the safety of others.
Many people dream of riding a motorcycle down the open highway and if you are one of the lucky souls that gets to experience that dream firsthand, be sure to keep safety at the top of your list of importance when it comes to bike riding. Pack a motorcycle first aid kit and keep it packed in the saddle bag every time you ride. Hopefully you will never need it but it can come in handy if you ever run across a bad situation as you ride down the road. Another thing to keep in mind is to know the road before you travel. Check the weather report and also check road conditions before heading out. Aside from that, be safe and enjoy the ride!
