Senior Airman Michael J. Buras, 23 of Fitzgerald, Georgia, was killed in action on September 21, 2010 by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.  I didn’t know this service member but had the privilege to honor him.  As part of the Patriot Group Riders we escorted this hero from Warner Robins AFB to his home town funeral home in Fitzgerald, a distance of about 75 miles on, Saturday the 2nd of October 2010.  I’m not a very emotional guy but the honor his home town gave him as we drove through the streets of Fitzgerald was almost overwhelming.  The streets were filled with members of the community lined up waiting for their hero as he was escorted through the town.  This just proves that it doesn’t matter what we think about the war but that we continue to support our servicemen and women.  The community of Fitzgerald did their service member proud and I am honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of it.
