Thanks for any help, Chardagha '88 FXSTS, '90 FLHTC, '01 FXDSuper  less

SoCal canyon-to-coast run with my wife, I could not get the "neutral" light to illuminate even though I had the bike in neutral.  Additionally, a red "check engine" icon in the speedo face flickered on and off several times.  I dont have a service manual for this one yet, so I'm at a loss.  Any thoughts?  Chardagha PS:  I also run an '88 FXSTS Softtail Springer;  pretty much stock 'ceptin for the S&S Shorty carb, punched pipes, Screamin' Eagle cam and ignition module.  Lost the clutch on her Thursday witth 70 K on the clock.  Not sure what happened, but feels like the friction discs got no friction.  In the shop awaiting news.  less

Posted in the topic Starter Solenoid Cover W/Manual Pushbutton in the forum Harley Davidson

hey guys, Chardagha here. I amnow riding a 2012 FLHTK Limited, having been through the '90 FLH and an '07 FLHTCU. The 2.0 amp solenoid pushbutton cover was the bomb and completely cured my starter woes. I'm pretty sure that my problem may have been a poor ground, but could never locate where. The '89 and '90 FLH's were bastard children and used the 2.0 cover whereas the later bikes used the 1.4 cover shown above. IMO, the pushbutton cover is a lifesaver for errant starter solenoid circuits. I don't need one now but will probably instal one on my current Limited, "just in case".
BTW, there is no comparison between the 2012 and the '07 FLH. The stock 103 motor more than handles the too tall 6-speed 1st gear, and the roll-on at any speed is awesome. Also, HD has addressed the frame flexion problem, and cornering is awesome at any speed. I normally do the stage 1 upgrade right away, but will wait as I'm completely happy with stock performance at this point.

Thanks for the responses so far. I am not displeased with the performance gain just want a little more volume. I may remove the end caps and look into the packing around the baffles. Also, after removing the factory cans I saw that I can probably run a spike in from the back and open them up a bit. I'll let y'all know what happens.

Don't know what happened, couldn't enter my question just the topic!!
Anyway, I just installed a pair of SE muffler slip-ons onto my 07 FLHTCU and they are not loud enough for my taste. They have removable tips; anyone have a suggestion for increasing volume? The bike is stock with 17K on the clock.
